MOSCOW, December 19 (Sputnik) — Russia is a very important country for Formula One and the group had waited 30 years for the first Grand Prix to be held in Russia, Formula One Group Chief Executive Bernie Ecclestone told RIA Novosti Friday.

"Russia is a very-very-very-very important country and we worked toward this event [Sochi Formula One Grand Prix] for 30 years," Ecclestone said.

Ecclestone praised the organization of the event, naming the Sochi circuit among the top 3 best in the world.

"Race organization was perfect, absolutely super. All Teams have been happy here and want to come back, be here," Ecclestone said.

The Formula One Chief noted that many countries had competed for the right to hold the world-famous race and some had been willing to spend significant sums to be chosen.

"Maybe they are ready to pay more money than we got here. But it's [money] not the most important thing in the world," Ecclestone said.

Speaking about the countries that are most likely to hold new Formula One events, Ecclestone named South Africa and the United States. "We want to have a race in South Africa, it would be great to get back to this part of the world. Americans have one race and want to have one more," he said.

The 2014 Russian Grand Prix – the very first Formula One event held in Russia — took place in the southern resort city of Sochi from October 10 to October 12, 2014.
