NEW YORK, January 27 (RIA Novosti) – Russian diplomats will on Wednesday visit Russian citizen Evgeny Buryakov, arrested in the United States over conspiracy to act as an unregistered agent of a foreign government, the Russian consulate general in New York said Tuesday.
“Our visit is scheduled for tomorrow,” a spokesman for the Russian diplomatic mission said.
Buryakov was charged on Monday in New York, alongside two other Russian nationals Igor Sporyshev and Victor Podobny. Buryakov may face between 10 and 20 years in prison.
On Tuesday, Russia's Vnesheconombank (VEB) confirmed that Buryakov served as a deputy representative of the bank in New York.
According to the US Department of Justice, Sporyshev said he was a Russian trade representative, while Podobny said he served as an attache to Moscow's mission to the United Nations.
