MOSCOW, February 1 (Sputnik) – A video has surfaced on the internet which reportedly shows the moment when IDF shelling struck a UN compound on Wednesday, killing a Spanish UN peacekeeper.
According to a translation of the soldiers' conversation into English by Israeli news website Ynet.com, one of the Spanish peacekeepers in the clip, sitting in a vehicle close to the compound's guard tower, is heard saying, "It cannot be that this was from Israel." The second soldier, moments before the shell hit, replied, "It sounds like fire from an area under Hezbollah control."
On Wednesday Hezbollah claimed responsibility for a missile attack on an Israeli military convoy near Shebaa Farms, in Israeli-occupied Lebanese territories on the Golan Heights, which took lives of two soldiers. Shortly after the incident, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Hezbollah exchanged fire, with Israeli artillery launching at least 25 shells at southern Lebanon. The fighting resulted in the death of a UN peacekeeper.
