Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said there is no blacklist for media resources in Russia, as it would be illegal under existing Russian laws.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Reports claiming that there is a blacklist for media resources in Russia are absurd, as such a list does not and, under any law, is not allowed to exist in the country, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday.

“No, there cannot be any blacklist of media. A registration of all media resources takes place in Roskomnadzor [Russia’s communications watchdog],” Peskov told reporters.

"Any information about existence of some blacklists is absurd," Peskov added.

Peskov’s statement came in response to a story in the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper, stating that media in Russia is controlled by the country's Investigative Committee.

On Tuesday, Moskovskiy Komsomolets said that Russia’s Investigative Committee possesses a blacklist of anti-government media resources.

The Constitution of Russia guarantees the freedom of ideas and speech for all its citizens, and stipulates the right to look for, receive, transmit, produce and distribute information in any legal way.
