“The black box has been recovered and is now in the Amtrak operations center in Delaware for analysis,” Nutter said in a press conference.
Philadelphia-area hospitals have received more than 200 patients since the Amtrak train headed for New York City crashed near Philadelphia on Tuesday night, Philadelphia Deputy Managing Director for Emergency Management Samantha Phillips said at a press conference on Wednesday.
“Our hospitals treated over 200 patients last night and this morning,” Phillips told reporters.
On Tuesday night, Amtrak Northeast Regional Train 188, carrying 238 passengers and five crew members derailed and rolled onto its side. Mike Nutter confirmed the accident’s death toll has reached six people.
The mayor said that over 200 officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were involved in the search and rescue operation.
