MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia’s gas giant Gazprom will begin laying between 43 and 50 kilometers (up to 31 miles) of pipeline for the Power of Siberia leg to China in 2015, a Gazprom deputy executive manager said Tuesday.
“We plan to lay 43 kilometers of lines, but I think we can reach upwards to 50 kilometers,” Vitaly Markelov said during a press conference in the company’s headquarters in Moscow.
He said that China’s CNPC company will begin its construction on its territory in June.
“CNPC company will begin construction of the Power of Siberia leg in June, I believe,” Markelov added.
In 2014, Russia's Gazprom and China’s CNPC signed a 30-year contract stipulating the delivery of 38 billion cubic meters of Russian gas annually to China via the Power of Siberia pipeline Eastern route.
The construction of the pipeline was launched September 1, 2014, with the start of deliveries scheduled for 2018.
