MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Anti-Eurotunnel immigration protesters clashed with their opponents, crossing the road towards the pro-migrant rally held in the British port town at the mouth of the Channel Tunnel on Saturday, media reported.
Earlier in the day, two separate groups gathered in Folkestone to express their point of view over the Calais migration crisis, with one side urging the authorities to provide migrants with humanitarian aid, and the other opposing the uncontrolled migration flow which took over the United Kingdom.
The police resolved the clash driving the protesters back to their side of the rally.
According to the Eurotunnel data, nine migrants have been killed attempting to cross into the United Kingdom via the Channel Tunnel between Folkestone, Kent, in the United Kingdom and Coquelles, near Calais, in northern France in the last month.
Some 1,100 migrants, mainly from North African countries, have tried to enter the tunnel on passing trucks and trains headed for Britain on Friday. Thousands have attempted the journey in the past weeks.
The French side of the Channel Tunnel, Calais is currently home to some 3,000 migrants from conflict-torn countries in North Africa, the Middle East, and Central and South Asia living in tents near the transit zone.
