Western media lacks objectivity, coming under pressure from national, regional and foreign political interests, the director of Inter Press Service (IPS) news agency told Sputnik on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik), Yulia Shamporova – Earlier in the day, a new poll conducted by ICM Research exclusively for Sputnik revealed that 56 percent of European and US residents believed that mainstream media in their respective countries are influenced by politicians and big business.

"Objectivity — in so far as reporters can be objective — falls prey to national, regional or foreign policy interests of the countries in which the Western media on the whole are based," Ramesh Jaura said.

According to him, media coverage of international affairs in Europe and the United States is on the whole very much influenced by political and business interests.

It is also occasionally devoid of a contextualized approach, Jaura added.

Earlier this year, another ICM poll revealed that some 60 percent of European and US citizens would be interested in receiving news from sources other than mainstream Western media.
