VIENNA (Sputnik) — Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann plans to meet with his German counterpart, Angela Merkel, on Tuesday to discuss the surging flow of refugees to the European Union, a statement issued Sunday on the chancellery’s website said.
According to Faymann, it is highly important to maintain close cooperation with Germany on the issue.
Earlier Sunday, Berlin unveiled its plans to reintroduce temporary controls on its border with Austria in an attempt to cope with an unprecedented influx of asylum-seekers. Moreover, all trains entering Germany across it southern border have been stopped.
In late August, the German Interior Ministry said it expected 800,000 asylum seekers and refugees to arrive in the country by the year-end, four times as many as in 2014.
