MOSCOW (Sputnik) — More than 160 websites collecting money for illegal armed groups, including those in Syria, were blocked in Russia in 2015, Kremlin Chief of Staff Sergei Ivanov said Tuesday.
"More than 160 web resources created to collect money to support illegal armed groups, including terrorist groups in Syria, were blocked. This work must continue," Ivanov said.
According to the official, 4,500 websites inciting extremism were also taken down.
Many governments, including in Russia and the United States, have been calling for the curtailment of ways to radicalize people over the Internet.
In December, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the incitement of terrorism and the spreading of extremist ideology via the Internet must be stamped out.
