MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A dialogue between Moscow and Doha will contribute to the stabilization of situation in the Middle East, Russian lower house speaker Sergei Naryshkin said Monday.

"We believe that the Russian-Qatari political cooperation, interaction is intended to contribute to the normalization of the protracted, dangerous situation in this large and important region of the world, the Middle East, North Africa. And we hope that the political consultations between the two countries will contribute to this process," Naryshkin said at a meeting with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Thani.

Also Naryshkin stressed that the Vienna negotiations, which include Qatar, are an essential part of international effort to resolve Syrian conflict.

"Over the past few months, we manged to activate international efforts to promote the settlement in Syria, the Vienna format, where Qatar is a valuable participant, plays an important role in this," Naryshkin said.

The speaker expressed hope that the emir's visit would be an important step in the development of relations between the two countries.

The Qatari emir arrived in Moscow for a two-day visit on Sunday to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
