UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — Three aid workers were reportedly killed on Wednesday in Syria’s northern Aleppo governorate as fighting between government troops and militants intensified earlier this week, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's deputy spokesman said.
"There’ve been reports of intensified fighting and airstrikes in Aleppo governorate in recent days," Farhan Haq said. "The UN has also received reports of three humanitarian workers killed in rural Aleppo in airstrike earlier today."
Thousands of people from towns in the northeast of Syria have allegedly been displaced over the past couple of days, according to reports received by UN agencies.
The Syrian army is on the offensive in the Aleppo region south of the Turkish border. On Tuesday, government forces said they had freed two besieged Syrian settlements from Islamist militants.
