MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to The Star newspaper, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) received a distress call Saturday evening over the incident. A vessel was dispatched to carry out search-and-rescue operations.

The operations continued Sunday morning with more vessels, including marine police ships, but they were unable to locate the anglers.
