Washington has seriously taken on anti-Russian military planning and Moscow will have to take this into account, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Tuesday.

Isn't Putting NATO Troops on Russian Border Act of Aggression?
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Washington is going to waste about $3.4 billion of American taxpayer money on the so-called "European Reassurance Initiative" aimed at beefing up the US military presence in East Europe in 2017 in order to deter the so-called "Russian aggression."

In accordance with the plan announced last week by General Phil Breedlove, commander of US European Command (EUCOM), NATO will position additional US troops as well as up to 250 tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles and Paladin self-propelled howitzers and other heavy armored vehicles along its eastern borders in Europe.

“Washington has seriously taken on military planning and construction directed against Russia. This type of strategy is attached to leading documents and is heavily financed,” Zakharova was cited as saying on the Foreign Ministry’s website.

“We cannot scornfully regard our own security and we will obviously have to take this into account,” the spokeswoman said.

Zakharova emphasized that the Pentagon is conducting intensified military preparations close to Russia’s borders, including the deployment of air defense systems in Eastern Europe.

“The renewed strategy of the US European Command calls Russia ‘a global challenge that requires a global response’ and that ‘containing Russian aggression’ is the top priority,” Zakharova said.
