"In total, law enforcement authorities have made 36 arrests since [Wednesday] morning," the statement says.
According to the statement, a total of 50 people were injured, 16 of them were taken to the hospital.
Earlier, a Russian Consulate representative told RIA Novosti that a total of 12 Russian fans had been detained in Lille. The Nord Department police said earlier that a total of 16 football fans, including Russian nationals, were detained in the city.
English and Russian fans clashed in Lille on Wednesday, after Russia’s Euro 2016 match with Slovakia. An R-Sport correspondent reported that police used tear gas against English fans after they blocked a city street and refused to disperse.
According to Nord Department police, over 3,900 police officers were mobilized in Lille, including almost 1,600 for securing the city center alone.
On June 11, the Russian national football team played with England in a UEFA Euro-2016 football match in the French city of Marseille. Clashes that erupted between Russian and English fans after the game resulted in at least 30 people being injured.
