LILLE (Sputnik) — On Thursday, within the framework of the ongoing Euro-2016 tournament, the French town of Lens, which is situated some 20 miles from Lille, will host a match between the national teams of England and Wales.
Crowds of English and Welsh fans gathered on Wednesday near bars in downtown Lille, singing songs and crying football chants. The police fired tear gas to push the fans from the roads.
The ongoing UEFA Euro-2016 championship in France has already seen several waves of violence in different cities across the country, as football fans of various countries clash with each other. The scuffles peaked on Saturday, as Russian and English fans clashed ahead of the match between their national teams at the Velodrome stadium in the French city of Marseille and after it.
