"In the last two years knife crime in London has increased by 16 per cent, and the Mayor is determined to tackle this grave threat to young lives," the press release reads.
According to the statement, the mayor also plans to hold a City Hall Knife Crime Summit, that is expected to bring together young people, experts and project workers to discuss ways of dealing with the problem and to help stop people from resorting to violence.
"I am deeply concerned and determined to do everything I possibly can to help rid our communities of this terrible violence. We need to send a strong message that carrying a knife is completely unacceptable, and is more likely to ruin your life than to save it," Khan was quoted as saying in the press release.
London has registered a 16-percent increase in knife crime since 2014.
