NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — India is working on a plan to shut tight the entire border with Pakistan by late 2018 after the recent clashes in the disputed region of Kashmir, Indian Interior Minister Rajnath Singh said Friday.
"It will be done by 2018 December. We are readying an action plan," the minister said after a security meeting in the border city of Jaisalmer, as quoted by the NDTV news channel.
Rajnath Singh said the government was considering "technical" options for fencing off the 651-mile-long border with Pakistan. A part of it runs along river beds.
Tensions have been simmering between India and Pakistan after a deadly attack on the Uri military base in the India-administered Kashmir in September. India accused Pakistan of backing terrorism in the disputed region, but Pakistan denied any role in insurgency.
