Dogged by media accusations that he’s too much of a fringe politician, Norbert Hofer surprisingly upset the “experts” by coming in a very close second nearly half a year ago, only to have his electoral defeat fortuitously overturned due to voting irregularities.
Now Mr. Hofer has the chance to become an “Austrian Trump” by defying the establishment’s expectations and giving a voice to the distraught masses who have had enough with Western liberalism.
Regardless of the eventual results, however, it’s now undeniable that the right wing is seeing a revival all across the world, even in places where it was previously taboo.
