MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Strategic Missile Forces (SMF) Commander Col. Gen. Sergey Karakayev said that Russia's Strategic Nuclear Forces are a guarantee of the country's security and independence of its policy amid the current geopolitical situation.
"In 2017 we will continue the development of the Russian Armed Forces. We will pay special attention to the maintenance of the Strategic Nuclear Forces at a level ensuring a guaranteed deterrence of aggression against the Russian Federation and its allies, trying to reach the parameters set by the treaty on strategic offensive arms," Gerasimov said at a meeting with foreign military attaches.
