WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Shannon will be accompanied by experts and officials from various US government agencies, the release added.
"Shannon will travel to Vienna, Austria, July 20-22, to lead the US delegation to the Joint Commission meeting of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) regarding Iran’s nuclear program," the release said on Wednesday.
The participants attending the Joint Commission meeting will include the P5+1 — China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany — as well as the European Union and Iran.
The JCPOA, which was concluded in July 2015 lifts nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran in exchange for assurances that Tehran’s nuclear program will remain peaceful.
