Ukraine has received 1.5 billion euros ($1.59 billion) in the ninth tranche of financial assistance from the European Union, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated on Monday.

"Ukraine received the 9th tranche of [an icon of the EU flag] financial assistance amounting to €1.5 billion… In total, EU budget support to [an icon of the Ukrainian national flag] in 2023 already amounts to €15 billion," Shmyhal wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. Kiev is working together with the European Commission on a new long-term program, the Ukraine Facility, valued at 50 billion euros, of which Ukraine expects to receive 18 billion euros next year, the prime minister said on Telegram. Ukraine's budget has been running a deficit of about $5 billion a month since the beginning of Russia's special operation, with two-thirds of the money coming from foreign loans and grants, and three-quarters spent on military needs, Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko stressed earlier in the year.
