CEO of One of UK's Oldest Energy Companies Calls UK 'Uninvestable'

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The United Kingdom has become an "uninvestable" country due to its unpredictable oil and gas policies, Jim Johnson, the CEO of one of UK's oldest energy companies Hunting, said on Monday.
"The reality is that Britain has become uninvestable. Everything your politicians have done has shown me that we cannot trust them. So why would I make a big investment here?" Johnson was quoted as saying by British newspaper.
He warned UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham that efforts to revive the country's oil and gas industry were doomed to fail because of punitive taxes and "unpredictable policy decisions."
Hunting was reportedly forced to lay off dozens of employees and scale back 80% of its UK operations in 2025 amid the Labour Party's drive for carbon neutrality. It suffered significant losses following a ban on new drilling in the North Sea introduced under Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
In July, media reported that Burnham intended to approve new North Sea oil and gas projects, including new drilling at the Jackdaw and Rosebank fields off the coast of Scotland.
