New Silk Road on Ice: Russia Forges Trailblazing Arctic Transport Link to China

YAKUTSK, Russia (Sputnik) - Work has begun on an international transport corridor linking China's Mohe and Russia's Naiba, which will function as a key logistical link for the future Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor, Russian Presidential Aide and Chairman of the Russian Marine Board Nikolai Patrushev said on Tuesday.

"Work has started on establishing the Mohe-Naiba international transport corridor, which will ensure the loading of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor in the future," Patrushev said during a meeting on cargo transportation in Russia's Lena basin.
Implementing this project, the presidential aide stated, requires an integrated transport system: a unified network combining port terminals, shipping infrastructure, service centers, and modern logistics hubs, all linked to rail and road transportation.
According to Patrushev, advancing the Lena basin's infrastructure demands significant investment. He proposed funding it through public-private partnerships and capital markets, stressing that partners must be major firms with the financial strength and expertise for large-scale projects.
The Russian official outlined a vision to upgrade the Lena River from a regional waterway into a logistics corridor of national and international significance, highlighting the basin's vast development potential.
