Nations all over the world have been put on lockdown due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19.
Governments in many countries have decided to shut their borders, scrap public gatherings, big events and festivals, and urged citizens to stay at home as COVID-19 continues to rage across the globe.
In December 2019, China informed the World Health Organisation (WHO) about an outbreak of a yet unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan in the central province of Hubei. On 11 March, the WHO declared the outbreak of the disease, caused by a new strain of coronavirus, a pandemic. Almost 600,000 people have been infected in 199 countries worldwide, and over 27,000 have died.
