ASTANA (Sputnik) – The Kazakh government has promised to deliver humanitarian aid to Syria, Fateh Jamous, the leader of the Coalition of Peaceful Change Forces, told Sputnik on Monday.
"The agenda of the first day of negotiations includes the issue of humanitarian aid that Kazakhstan's government promised to deliver aid to the Syrian people, including the support of clinics and schools in Syria, the supply of medication and food," Jamous said.
The Syrian opposition reconciliation talks kicked off on Monday in the Kazakh capital of Astana. The talks are being held amid the ongoing round of consultations in Geneva, mediated by UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura. The Geneva negotiations, involving the Syrian opposition, the government, regional players and UN Security Council members will last for up to six weeks.
The latest intra-Syrian talks were held in Moscow in April.
