MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The International Conference on Nuclear Security: Commitments and Actions organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) kicks off in Vienna, Austria on Monday.
"The conference is being convened to discuss the national and international community's experiences and achievements to date in strengthening nuclear security; to enhance understanding of current approaches to nuclear security worldwide; to identify trends; to provide an inclusive forum at which ministers, policy makers, senior officials and nuclear security experts can formulate and exchange views on future directions and priorities for nuclear security and how these may evolve," the IAEA said in a statement.
The 2016 event follows the successful International Conference on Nuclear Security: Enhancing Global Efforts held in the Austrian capital in July 2013. The 2013 conference was attended by over 1,300 registered participants from 125 member states, 34 of which were represented at ministerial level, and 21 intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations.
