WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Ohio Senator J.D. Vance is spearheading an effort to split up the White House’s proposed supplemental funding package that combines assistance to Israel and Ukraine, according to a memo published by an American newspaper.
“The administration seeks to link Ukraine and Israel funding. This is a grave error that betrays a lack of strategic focus. Each conflict is distinct and represents a different claim on US interests,” the memo stated.
In the three-page memo, Vance laid out five key arguments that include Israel’s military operations in Palestine leading to a more stable Israel, whereas the Ukraine conflict continues to destabilize Europe, and that the US political and military relationship with Israel is different from that with Ukraine.
In addition, the memo noted that Israel’s defense capabilities are much more sophisticated from Ukraine’s and that Israel's operations have an achievable objective, while Ukraine's do not; and that the US has a plan in Israel, while it does not in Ukraine.
