Social media in Kazakhstan reported on Tuesday that a NATO center opened in the country.
"On October 23, 2023, the official opening of the new conference hall of the peacekeeping operations center of the Kazakh Ministry of Defense took place in Almaty with the participation of US Ambassador to Kazakhstan Daniel Roseblum. The center has been operating since 2006 as an educational institution designed to develop the peacekeeping component of the Kazakh armed forces," the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry clarified that the center is a supplementary education establishment of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan, and its main purpose is "language teaching and training of military, police, and civilian personnel to participate in peacekeeping operations under UN standards," the statement emphasized. The establishment also provides instruction in the basics of international humanitarian law and the legal framework for peacekeeping activities, it added.
The ministry stressed that the center is a member of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centers (IAPTC).
