On October 7, Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory, firing a barrage of rockets and catching the IDF (Israeli Army) off guard. Israeli government launched operation Swords of Iron and invoked Article 40 of the Basic Law which de-facto implies a declaration of war.
Palestinian Hamas movement has achieved the goals of its operation in Israel and now it is open to any discussions, a member of the movement's political bureau, Mousa Abu Marzouq, said on Tuesday.
"We have achieved our goals ... We are open to any discussions and political dialogue," Abu Marzouq told regional broadcaster, adding that the movement is "not closed to negotiations."

Roots of Palestinian-Israeli Conflict
Russia has called for a ceasefire and immediate peace talks, while stressing that the roots of the conflict must be understood.
According to the latest available data, the death toll from hostilities has risen to over 700 among Palestinians and roughly 1100 Israelis, with thousands of wounded from both sides.

The home of Mohammed Deif, the commander of the military wing of the Palestinian movement Hamas, the Al-Qassam Brigades, has been hit in an Israeli attack, resulting in the death of his closest relatives, Israeli media reported Wednesday.
Deif's father, brother, children and other relatives have been killed in the attack on his home in the city of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, media said. There are no immediate reports about the fate of the commander.

Austin Directs US Special Forces to Support Israel With Intelligence, Planning - Official
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has directed US special operations forces to provide planning and intelligence support to Israel, a US military official told Sputnik.
"The secretary offered hostage rescue support to Minister [Yoav] Gallant on the phone this weekend and directed his JSOC [Joint Special Operations Command] team to lean forward with planning and intel support to IDF [Israel Defense Forces]," the official said on Tuesday.
Israel will take the lead on any operations that may involve assistance from US forces, but it does not mean US troops will be on the ground, the official said.
Earlier Tuesday, media reported US special operations forces were placed on alert in a European country close to Israel.

The head of the political bureau of the Palestinian movement Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, called on the Arab countries on Tuesday to provide funding to support the Gaza Strip.
Haniyeh sent a political memorandum on the Operation Al-Aqsa Flood the presidents and leaders of Arab countries and the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, according to the statement.

Approximately 15 rockets were launched from Lebanon towards Israel on Tuesday, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said, adding that it intercepted four of them, while the majority fell far from any settlements.

Jordanian King Issues Directives to Send Humanitarian Aid to Gaza
Jordanian King Abdullah II on Tuesday ordered for humanitarian and medical help to be sent to the Gaza Strip through a border crossing located in Egypt and in full coordination with Egyptian authorities.
"His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday issued directives to dispatch medical and humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, through the Rafah border crossing, in full and prior coordination with Egypt," a statement on the king's official website read.

WHO Says Working on Creation of Humanitarian Corridor Into Gaza as Supplies Depleted
The World Health Organization (WHO) is currently working on creating a humanitarian corridor into the Gaza Strip as all supplies previously distributed in seven hospitals in the region have already been depleted, WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic said on Tuesday.
"A humanitarian corridor is needed to reach people with critical medical supplies and WHO will work with partners on this," Jasarevic told a briefing.
In Gaza, WHO is providing support, supplies and previously delivered training of health workers and response planning, he added.
"Unfortunately, the prepositioned supplies, which were in seven major hospitals in the Gaza Strip have now been used up," Jasarevic said, adding that the hospitals activated emergency plans on Monday in order to "better manage the surge of causalities."

UN Human Rights Chief Calls on Hamas to Release Hostages Captured In Israeli Escalation
The Hamas movement has to immediately release all hostages captured in the recent Israeli-Palestinian conflict as such actions violate international law, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Tuerk said on Tuesday.

US Aircraft Carrier Transfer to Middle East Increases Risks of Conflict Expansion – Moscow
The transfer of the US aircraft carrier strike group to the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea to the shores of the Middle East increases the risks of involving new parties in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Tuesday.
Earlier in the week, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that the United States, amid the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, is sending the US aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford strike group to the eastern Mediterranean and strengthening aviation units in the region. The aircraft carrier strike group, in addition to the aircraft carrier itself, includes a missile cruiser and four destroyers that carry guided missile weapons.
"All this really raises suspicions that the situation is developing along the path of escalation and the risk of involving third countries in this conflict. And this is fraught with long-term and very serious consequences both for the region and for the world," Zakharova told a briefing, commenting on the transfer of the US aircraft carrier group to the Middle East.

The Rafah checkpoint on the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip is closed again amid Israeli airstrikes on the Palestinian part of the border crossing, sources on the Egyptian part of the crossing told Sputnik on Tuesday.
Rafah had earlier resumed operating as usual after being temporarily closed due to an Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip near the border on Monday evening. Earlier in the day, the governor of the Egyptian province of North Sinai where the crossing is located, Mohamed Abdel-Fadeel Shousha, told Sputnik that the checkpoint, the sole crossing point between Egypt and Gaza, may be opened for injured Palestinians if necessary.
"The checkpoint has been closed for crossings between Egypt and Palestine after the Palestinian side was under fire today at noon," the sources said.
At least two Israeli air strikes hit the Rafah checkpoint on Tuesday, an eyewitness told Sputnik.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hopes Current Israel-Hamas Escalation Won't Spread to Neighboring Countries
Current escalation in the Gaza Strip may last at least 10 days, and hopefully fighting will not affect neighboring countries, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said on Tuesday during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"We believe that, unfortunately, the hostilities currently taking place in Gaza could last at least 10 days," Hussein said, adding that prolonged fighting might “affect neighboring countries,”
The ministry added that international intervention is necessary “to stop hostilities” and find a just solution to the Palestinian issue.

The Israeli fighter jets struck a number of targets of the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, including a weapons storage site, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said.
"A short while ago, IDF fighter jets struck a number of Hamas terror targets in the Gaza Strip, including a military compound and a weapons storage site," the IDF wrote on its Telegram channel.
The military is "currently conducting a wide-scale strike" on Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, the IDF added.

On Monday, several media reported, citing sources, that Qatar was engaged in urgent negotiations with Hamas on the exchange of Israeli women and children held in captivity in the Gaza Strip for 36 Palestinian women and children from Israeli prisons. Both Israel and Hamas denied the reports.
"We notified the parties who contacted us regarding the issue of enemy prisoners held by Hamas that this issue will not be raised until the end of the battle and will only be at the price that ... [Hamas] will accept," Haniyeh said in a statement.
