On April 4, ex-POTUS Donald Trump was charged by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg with 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree in connection with his alleged involvement in a $130,000 hush money payment and subsequent cover-up involving a purported affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels. The 45th US president pleaded not guilty to the charges during his arraignment.

On June 9, the federal indictment against Trump was unsealed, revealing he was being charged with 37 felony counts, 31 of which were for violating the Espionage Act through his "willful retention" of classified records. The remaining offenses were for false statements and obstruction of justice.

On August 1, Trump was hit with a third indictment and charged with four criminal charges tied to alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. He has since pleaded no guilty to all charges.
